Creston – Kootenay Lake Gran Fondo 2023

We at the Rotary Club of Creston were excited with the success of our second Gran Fondo held in September of 2022 and have a desire to build on that success. Our date is set for Saturday September 23rd, by which time normally the mosquitoes are gone and the smoke has cleared. We are of course hoping for a beautiful sunny fall day in the Kootenay River valley and up Kootenay Lake.

 

Changes for 2023:

 

Change to start/finish area and ride distances

We are excited to be partnering with the Lower Kootenay Band – Yaqan Nukiy, a member of the Ktunaxa Nation. Our start/finish area is on the grounds of the Wilfred Jacobs Building, the new health centre for the Band, on Highway 21. This beautiful location gives us the advantage of a lengthy flat area for the start/finish and alleviates some the traffic concerns for the previous location in town. It also lengthens our distances slightly and also changes the routes of the event to take in even more of our beautiful valley.

 

Addition of a gravel ride – the “Gravelino”

Recognizing the popularity of gravel riding we have added a ride we are calling the “Gravelino”, a 42.7 km combination of pavement and gravel through the farmlands of the Creston Valley and alongside one of the Kootenay River channels on the Creston flats. We hope to expand this in future years/
